Digital entertainment company POPS bursts into Indonesia with Zico Batin at the helm

Southeast Asian digital entertainment company POPS is expanding into Indonesia and has appointed Zico Kemala Batin as Country Director to lead its operational, strategic and growth development in the country. With over 13 years of experience, Batin (pictured left) has helped grow startups and large companies including Universal Music Group, Tencent Mobility and Alibaba.

He was also involved in the development, launch and monetization of Joox in Indonesia, as well as Alibaba’s acquisition and integration of UCWeb and its broad media across the country. POPS hopes to grow quickly and have a big impact on the market under his leadership.

POPS Indonesia will echo a similar model of recruiting talent from its network in other Southeast Asian countries, providing its audience and branded partners with content and entertainment solutions. POPS Indonesia’s on-demand video streaming service, POPS App, will go live in early 2021, delivering a new interactive digital experience fueled by hyper-local entertainment and new POPS originals ranging from music, animation, live action and esports content. The company is present in Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore and has more than 212 million subscribers.

Batin said the Indonesian market is a battleground for POPS expansion in Southeast Asia and that he is honored and excited to lead the charge as he believes now is the perfect time. “With POPS reinforcing the core strategy, the emphasis on cutting edge technology and quality content, I have no doubts that POPS will be the next big thing in the Indonesian market,” he added.

Bani Tan (pictured left), regional operations manager, said that with huge successes in Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore, the company is excited to now enter the Indonesian market and meet the challenge head-on . “With the incredible help and experience of Batin, our proven strategy of ‘think globally while acting hyper-local’, and the resulting quality content that is both relevant and localized for each community, we believe that POPS Indonesia will quickly become another successful POPS, ”Tan said.

Founder and CEO Esther Nguyen (pictured right) added that the company strongly believes that POPS Indonesia will be a great success for the platform. “With Batin’s impressive and extensive experience and network, we are confident that he will be able to realize the POPS vision in Indonesia. We believe that POPS Indonesia will be just as important as it was in Vietnam, in Thailand and Singapore We are so excited to expand into the new market and see what the future holds for POPS Indonesia, ”she said.
