Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum Concludes Successfully with Over 2,800 Online and In-Person Attendees

Dive deep into future digital entertainment trends and showcase immersive entertainment on Metaverse

HONG KONG SAR – Media outreach – August 31, 2022 – The annual signature event, Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum (DELF) ended on August 28 at Cyber ​​port by generating 110 hours of rich content, which attracted more than 2,800 participants from nearly 30 countries and regions. Under the theme “Transcending Entertainment Beyond Reality and Virtuality” this year, the three-day event brought together more than 70 foreign and local speakers to share industry information and introduced exciting new elements. The three experience zones featuring Metaverse, ArtTech and SportsTech offered a rich array of hands-on interactive experiences and games, including a virtual reality (VR) art appreciation tour, the blockchain game move- to-earn from StepN, a free trial of the Augmented Reality (AR) game based on the movie Warriors of Future, AI Coach with Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered data analysis and more. The Forum also featured various esports tournaments and matches with local and Southeast Asian players, and a total of more than 80 interactive experiences and workshops, giving the general public and esports enthusiasts a sense of personal excitement at the DELF. The DELF is also featured on a Metaverse Arena at Decentraland for online attendees to watch live talks and tournaments, and visit the digital art gallery, Metaverse and NFT-themed startup showcases, and a more interactive immersive fun experience.

Building on the great success of the DELF last year in hybrid mode, we continued to explore how to help the industry overcome barriers and examine the issues of integrating the metaverse into our daily lives, from setting standards to the development of policies and laws. We are delighted with the success of the DELF metaverse exhibition, with strong attendance to try out new digital entertainment experiences in sports, esports as well as ArtTech.

Another highlight event this year was the APRU Metagame 2022 conference, organized by APRU (the Association of Pacific Universities) on the second day of the DELF. The conference brought together academic and industry leaders from North and South America and Asia-Pacific, to discuss policy development for esports as well as generational learning on the metaverse, which includes the benefits from the gamification of education, elite esports in academia, and the potential of esports to improve our social well-being. During the conference, students from Asia-Pacific also participated in the APRU Rampage Invitational.

Cyberport has also started co-hosting Senior Esports and Experience Day with various organizations since 2018, to broaden the appeal of esports and encourage seniors to maintain an active lifestyle. Focusing this year on interactive mahjong games, the Day was co-hosted with the Hong Kong Innovative Technology Development Association and the Rotary Club of Smart Hong Kong chaired by Cyberport Chief Executive Peter Yan, Hon. Legislative Council, Technology and Innovation Constituency, and Dr. Norman Lee, Governor of District 3450 of Rotary International, with the participation of 115 seniors to play the game “Mahjong World 2” developed by a start-up Cyberport. Congratulations to Chung Chaulung (68), who demonstrated his sharp mind by winning the Guangdong e-Mahjong tournament!

As esports debuts as an official medal sport at the Asian Games in Hangzhou in September 2023, “Street Fighter V” is one of eight medal game titles. DELF presented “Cyberport Presents: TOROS powered by Red Bull” match show at DELF, a “Street Fighter V Champion Edition” invitation with the official authorization of CAPCOM in Japan. The 8 local elites (top players), namely Buster_Claw, Chris Wong, ComboStrike, Denesis, Papa Eric, RaInPrO, Saisak and Tse4444, competed in the esports classic. RaInPro won the invitational tournament and took home HK$5,000 in prize money.

The DELF presents an exciting range of esports competitions, draft tournaments and show matches, to allow players and industry enthusiasts to experience the excitement of esports first hand, including the Microsoft Interschool Minecraft e-Sport Champions League, HKDSA Junior Racer Drone Racing Competition 2022, and SEFHK Invitational Tournament.

The APRU Metagame 2022 conference invites industry leaders to share new trends in esports, presents entries for the digital art design competition and organizes the APRU Rampage Invitational.

On this year’s Senior Esports and Experience Day, the oldest entrant turns 90, while Guangdong e-Mahjong tournament champion Chung Chaulung turns 68.
