Ek Villain Returns was released on July 29 to poor reviews. Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta gave the film one star.
In her review, she wrote, “Eight years after the original comes the sequel, ‘Ek Villain Returns’, in which the ‘every story has a villain’ theme is refreshed. This time around the story broadens its base with two male characters ricocheting between hero and villain, one masked, the other struggling to find his true selves. There could have been something to that idea, that everyone has hero and villain elements within them and which one comes out on top depends on our circumstances. But a disjointed plot and pedestrian performances don’t make for an effective movie: by comparison, the less than mediocre “Ek Villain,” starring Siddharth Malhotra-Riteish Deshmukh-Shraddha Kapoor, looks like a better movie.
Ek Villain Returns earned a total of Rs 41.69 crore after running in cinemas for three weeks.
