Liquid Media acquires video game properties Acclaim Entertainment

Candian Studio, Liquid Media Group, has reportedly acquired the rights to 65 Acclaim Entertainment video game properties for $ 1 million. Canadian company Throwback Entertainment initially purchased Acclaim’s collection of titles after it collapsed in 2004.

The Geekwire website has published the full list properties acquired by Liquid Media. More than half of the games listed are sports titles. This includes a variety of racing games and several entries into the NBA Jam series. There are also many NFL and baseball titles. Beyond sports series, the list presents Bubble Bobble (Taito) and the video game adaptation of Street Fighter: the movie (Capcom). As reported by Eurogamer, Liquid Media does not own the real rights to any of these franchises and only has access to Inventory Management Units (SKUs), originally published by Acclaim.

In a press release, Liquid Media discussed the recent trend to revive retro games while citing the success of Nintendo’s miniature consoles. Plans are to remaster the “beloved” classics with improved graphics that build on the original versions. And for anyone wondering about the NES 1987 release of Rare, Wizards and warriors, here is the official word from Throwback Entertainment via Twitter:

Were you an Acclaim Entertainment fan at the time? Have you ever played any of the games listed? Would you like to see anything, in particular, resurrected? Tell us in the comments.
