MTN boosts Senkyu points on MoMo withdrawals and sends money now for free on the MoMo app

MTN Mobile Money Ltd has increased the number of Senkyu points a customer gets to 15 points for every 100 Shs charged in MoMo withdrawal fees. Points are awarded on the withdrawal fee charged to the customer, i.e. for every 100 Shs charged to a customer, he receives 15 Senkyu points.

Additionally, sending money between MTN MoMo customers on the MTN MoMo app has been made free, during the promotion which will run until early 2022.

MTN Senkyu is a customer loyalty initiative aimed at rewarding customers who use MTN services. Once a customer dials *141# and joins the Senkyu program, they start earning points for using MTN services including charging airtime and bundles, calling, sending messages , data usage and MTN MoMo services such as sending money, payments, depositing and withdrawing from a mobile money agent.

During the announcement, Stephen Mutana, Ag. The Managing Director of MTN Mobile Money Uganda Limited, said that the aim of the promotion, MTN, is to reward its customers who eagerly use its services.

“As we approach the end of the year, we want to recognize and appreciate our customers who have continuously used MTN services. That’s why we want to reward them with loyalty points that can be used to enjoy more of these services,” explained Mutana.

Mutana said the decision is informed by the increase in person-to-person transactions over the past two years.

According to recent statistics from the Bank of Uganda, the value of person-to-person transactions increased from Shs 1.1 trillion in January 2021 to Shs 1.4 trillion in June 2021.

He further explained that the promotional offer serves to make cashless transactions affordable with the aim of boosting financial inclusion across the country.

“At MTN, we believe that through initiatives such as this, we can increase financial inclusion, which is necessary because every person deserves to have access to mobile financial services,” he noted.

Mobile money is currently the biggest contributor to financial inclusion in the country, amounting to 78% according to the 2018 Finscope survey.

The promotion is another effort by MTN to make mobile financial services affordable for its customers following a reduction in withdrawal rates earlier in May this year.
