When you think of Zoom, the first thing that comes to mind is that it is a platform that serves as an online meeting tool. That’s been the narrative for a while now, but not anymore. At Zoom’s annual event, Zoomtopiathe company announced that it is now adding two notable features platform, email and calendar clients in beta, similar to those available on Google Workspaces and Microsoft 365.
And now, with the integration of these two new features, users can now add third-party email and calendar services to the platform and access them through the desktop app. Essentially, this is designed to facilitate communication while simultaneously preserving time that would otherwise have been spent navigating through apps.
Back in September Zoom Chat has been renamed Zoom Team Chat. A few new features have also been added to support effective communication, for example, the ability to share in-meeting chat directly in Zoom Chat.
With this decision, Zoom now offers its users a unified experience, where they can access video conferencing tools, Zoom team chat, whiteboard, and more.
Oded Gal, Chief Product Officer of Zoom, added:
These new products work with the communication and collaboration offerings already available in Zoom Meetings, Phone, Whiteboard and Team Chat. Now teams can quickly and seamlessly switch from email to video meeting, turn a chat message into a phone call, collaborate on projects and, early next year, they can share boards blanks, all without ever leaving the Zoom app.
Zoom mail is end-to-end encrypted, which is why the company’s CEO said the service is best suited for small and medium-sized businesses that need private and secure communication channels. Plus, they can also access all the apps they might need in one convenient location, instead of switching between apps, which disrupts workflow.
Additionally, users will now be able to choose the new “@zmail.com” domain where those who are subscribed to the Zoom One Business plan can create their own unique domain. To access Zoom-hosted email and calendar services, you’ll need Zoom One Pro or Zoom Standard Pro subscriptions. Additionally, email and calendar clients for Zoom can be integrated with Google and Microsoft 365 services.
During the event, Zoom also launched new features, for example, smart recordings, meeting templates, and more. The company further added that it will launch a new AI-powered chatbot, Zoom Virtual Agent in 2023, which will help its customers with all their questions and issues.
